JOHN
Besides a girl like that knows
she’s hot. She probably flaunts it on purpose.
Emily sneers and looks to Max.
EMILY
You’re awfully quiet. Why aren’t
you justifying your staring as well?
MAX
I stared the first day but now if I
see her I see her. I don’t like to subject myself to someone like her when
I know I could never stand a chance. It hurts my already tiny ego.
Will looks at Max and laughs.
WILL
Yep. You gingers always have
tiny...egos.
A CUSTOMER in sweats stops in her tracks and stares at Will.
MAX
Funny. Any ways. Emily. If I stare
at her it’s only to witness Will strike out for the fourth time in a row. At
least I know I don’t stand a chance but Will and his miniscule ego still
think they stand a chance.
Emily and John both laugh. The customer leaves the building and heads
outside. Emily looks to Will discouraged.
EMILY
So you like that girl then?
WILL
Of course. What guy wouldn’t? And
I’m determined. Why would she come in every week, she’s playing hard
to get. She wants me.
10.
Emily scoffs at Will’s statement.
EMILY (sarcastically)
Lucky girl.
JOHN
I talked to her once. She’s fixing
up her mom’s garden. A bunch of stuff got ruined in the storm recently.
She said she wanted to help out because her mom’s having some trouble.
WILL
Well. She could go anywhere for
plants but she comes here. She wants me I’m telling ya.
EMILY (sarcastically)
I’m sure she’s into you, Will.
WILL
Thanks, Em. See she thinks I got a
chance.
MAX (laughing)
That was sarcasm.
WILL Whatever.
JOHN
I see her getting out of her car.
Here she comes. You better give it your all, Will. We’ll be here when
you get shut down to judge you.
Max laughs.
MAX
Can’t wait to hear how you fail
this time.
WILL
Don’t be bitter, Max. Some day
you’ll meet a girl that would love to be with a guy with no soul.
Will leaves.
11.
JOHN
Gotta get back to the office. See
you kids later.
John leaves out the door leading to the office.
MAX
I’ll see you later, Em. I got
watering to get back to.
Max starts heading for the door to leave. Emily runs out from behind the
counter over to Max.
EMILY
No! Wait! You’re not going watch
him?
MAX
No. I got work to do. I can’t be
watching, Will.
Max opens the door. Emily tugs on the back of Max’s shirt.
EMILY
We should watch and make fun of
him.
MAX
Em. I’m no idiot. I know what Will
does to girls.
EMILY What do you mean?
Max closes the door.
MAX
He plays with girls. I bet he’s
playing with you isn’t he? You wanna watch because you’re jealous.
Emily lets go of Max’s shirt and scoffs.
EMILY
I have a boyfriend.
MAX
That doesn’t stop Will. In a way he
likes fooling round with taken girls more. You’re better then this. You
don’t deserve to fall into his trap. You’re too awesome. Don’t let him get
under your skin.
12.
Max nods.
EMILY
You’re right. So I guess he does
this often, huh?
EMILY (CONT’D)
Then lesson learned. Thank you. I
needed the wake up call I guess. Can we watch any ways? I don’t wanna
watch alone. I don’t know why I wanna watch but I do. Will you?
MAX
Sure. Why don’t you come water with
me. You’ll probably be able to see from the first greenhouse. She always
gets plants from there. I can give you a hose and we can both water and
you can watch.
Emily smiles and opens the door.
EMILY
Thanks, Max. You’re a real great
guy.
Emily and Max head out the door.
EXT. FRONT OF NURSERY - DAY
The entrance is covered with a stunning display for the customers to
view. Flowers and statues placed in an intricate decoration. Many trees
stand in rows to the side of the building waiting to be purchased. The
parking lot lays opposite the stunning arrangement.
Will dashes out near the trees and positions himself by a row of trees
visible to the entrance.
CHARLIE, mid twenties, brown long curled hair, white tank top tucked
into a flowing navy skirt, walks through the entrance. She texts on her
phone as she enters.
Will walks closer to Charlie. Charlie still checks her phone, using her
hand to repel the sun from her screen.
Emily and Max enter and walk towards the first greenhouse. Emily grabs
Max’s shirt and he stops walking. Emily sees Will attempting to talk to
Charlie. Max stands and lets Emily watch.
13.
WILL
Welcome. Can I help you find
something?
Charlie looks up from her phone, the sun blinds her.
CHARLIE
Sur...
Will starts to walk over.
The sun hides behind the clouds and Charlie can now see.
CHARLIE (CONT’D)
Uh... Actually... I think I’ll be fine. I’ve been here before and I
know what I need. Thanks any ways.
Charlie wanders forward away from Will quickly. She heads toward the
first greenhouse.
WILL
Okay. Of course. Well if you see
anything you like or have any questions it’ll be my pleasure to help you.
I can help you bring something to the register as well. A pretty girl like
you shouldn’t be doing heavy lifting.
Emily scoffs. Max rolls his eyes at Will’s line.
CHARLIE
Thanks. But a pretty girl like me
is quite capable of lifting her own plants. I’m not the dainty type.
Thanks.
Charlie walks away from Will and begins to look at the selections of
plants.
Emily laughs. Emily looks at Max.
EMILY
That was really funny. I got a lot
of respect for that girl. She just stood right up to Will and called him out
on his shit. Let’s go water plants. Maybe I’ll get to watch from in there.
Emily laughs louder. Charlie looks over and sees Max and Emily.
14.
Emily and Max begin walking again and the two walk into the first
greenhouse.
Charlie heads in the direction of the first greenhouse as well.
